You start with 5 practice golf balls. Look at the angle (angle right of the screen) of the golf course. If you click with your mouse on the ball, you shoot the ball. This can practice first before going for the real thing! When you shoot slide your golf ball on the stars on the ground and grab you with extra points. It is of course the mean ment to make a hole-in-one "but with those extra points you can score overall increase significantly!
